The Catch Up Game

Two weeks ago, Frisco was hit hard by power and water shortages due to a winter storm. One week ago, FISD closed all campuses to assess damages from that same winter storm. The effect of this time on my (and most of my peers’) work ethic? Catastrophic.
Sure, the initial euphoria of snow days and hot cocoa was thrilling. But once it wore off, all we had to show for it was a mountain of work which threatened to collapse at any moment. So now, I’ve had to play the catch up game. I’m not a fan of the catch up game. I’d much rather play the stay-organized-and-ahead game, but here we are.
That being said, much of last week in ISM was spent making up for lost time and work. Everything that I had put off, finally snowballed and knocked me out in one clean shot. I got back up, though, and I got back up with a renewed sense of determination. I was determined to get caught up. I was determined to never fall behind again. I was determined to return to the hard working and motivated student that I know I am. I wrote three weeks worth of blog posts, did over an hour of research for my original work, and outlined my work for the following week.
The catch up game is not easy, but it can teach you a lesson — if you let it. For me, the lesson came in the form of a reminder. A reminder of the potential of which I know I am capable.
